General PSP FAQ
- Do these tips and tricks work with PSP 4.10 shareware?
- yes
- How do you select an irregular shape?
-
Posted by Louie
- It depends on the color content of the irregular shape.
- First of all, you can increase the tolerance of the
magic wand so that it selects more and more of your
shape, without including the neighboring colors you
don't want selected.
- Then you can select other parts
by holding down the shift key while you select with
the wand.
- Finally, if your irregular shape is
completely selected but there are still little
pieces of neighboring colors that are selected too,
you can press CTRL while using the wand on the
undesired colors and this will de-select them.
- If the irregular image has many colors, you might
have to play around a lot with the tolerance settings.
Remember that you can always hit Ctrl+Z to undo
your most recent change.

- Printing graphics created with PSP
- Posted by Sandy Blair
- It depends what format you are using and what program you are using to print it with.
- Some formats save a dpi (dots per inch) value, it is often 300 for laser printers, but your screen is
usually 72 dots per inch. If you want something to print out nicely on paper you will have to create
much bigger graphics, if you just want the paper to show the same scale as the screen look in the
preferences option under the File menu.
How Do I Clone in PSP 4.0
- In PSP 4.0 select the area you want to clone.
- Click on SELECTIONS/FLOAT
- Drag the selection to where you want it
- De-select.
Getting rid of Jaggies
- Can somebody please tell me how to draw a circle or oval that will have smooth edges rather than
the jagged look.
- Posted by Dirtyboy
- This problem bugged me for a while too. I was trying to do simple spheres using a glass lens filter I
picked up, and the jagged edges made them look horrible. But there's an easy way out of the problem.
Yes, anti-aliasing is the answer. I use the period (.) form a font called Storybook to make my circles.
I just make the point size large (100 pt, or whatever I need) and add the text. This creates a filled
circle. If you need an unfilled circle, try adding a slightly smaller pointsize period inside the first one,
using your background color. Edge enhance may also do the job, but I haven't tried that.

- Try the obvious softening or blurring
and since (in paint shop pro) you can only anti-alias text, find a font that suits your needs.
Interdimmensional may suit your purposes

- Go to this
site and download Microsoft's Font smoother.
There's also a tutorial on anti-aliasing there.
- Jagged edges on small text
- Make sure anti-alias is checked in the Add Text window and save the finished image to a gif format.
