Start with the photo of your choice.
Selecting the area to manipulate can be tricky. You'll probably have to adjust the
tolerance level of the magic wand several times to get just the area you want.
Just for examples sake, here are several variations of the same photo, showing different tolerance levels. I have colored the 'selected' area for display purposes.
None of these choices are particularly suitable for what I have envisioned the final product to look like, but the one
set to a tolerance level of 75 is the closest. The only problem with it is that the tree is being included in the selection. So, the tree
will have to be excluded from the selection, but due to the colors in the photo, it will always be picked up in
the selection with the magic wand. To isolate the tree, I chose a color not represented in the photo, and using the paint
brush, size set to 1, I drew a thin line across the base of the tree, separating it from the black of the background. Then,
using the fill tool, I poured yellow into the tree.
After you have isolated the areas you don't want selected, you can
safely use the magic wand to select the entire area that you do want selected.
I set the Magic Wand Tolerance to 65 for this image, and clicked in the black area
to make my selection.
Then I selected Images/special effects/chisel
Chisel settings: size:7, transparent
Using black as the foreground color, I used the fill tool to turn the tree back to it's original color. Note: For obvious reasons, this method
of isolating the tree from the selection area will not work on people.
Adjust the brightness, crop the excess and save.
