Adding Text

To add text to your image, click the "A" on the tool palette. Position your cursor over your window. Notice that the curser has changed to a plus symbol with a capital "A" next to it. Left click on the window to bring up the Add Text Window.

The two "text" examples are blown up 3:1 to better show the effects of anti-alias vs. non-anti-alias.
no anti-alias text
Anti-aliasing helps eliminate the "staircase" effect that results from two contrasting colors that are adjacent to each other. This "staircase" effect can be very obvious in text.
anti-aliased text
Anti-Aliasing gradually blends the two colors over 3 pixels which causes the two colors to have a smoother edge.

Floating Option
If you turn 'floating' on, the text will be in a floating selection, in the foreground color. Cannon/Text If you turn the option off, the text will contain the colors that appear in the image at the point where the curser was when you selected it. An interesting effect can be achieved with this feature by setting the background color in the color palette to a contrasting color prior to typing your text. Once the text is placed on the image, don't de-select it. Using the curser, move the text slightly to one side. De-select the text and you have an instant 3-D effect.
Cannon2
A simple cutout and drop shadow will produce stunning effects to text created with the floating option de-selected.

The ability to create is unlimited when combined with the special effects filters that come packaged as part of the PSP program. We will look at some of those options in the next lesson.
